The predecessor firm to Kerst & Strautman P.C. was founded by attorney, Dan Kerst, in 1975. Dan Kerst received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Denver in 1975, and he began practicing law in Glenwood Springs and Carbondale shortly thereafter. Through the years, Dan Kerst served his clients’ needs in the estate planning, estate administration, business, and real estate areas. Dan built one of the most reputable and well-known estate planning practices on the Western Slope of Colorado. Dan was a solo practitioner until 1996, when Carolyn Strautman joined him as an associate. Dan and Carolyn became partners in 2012, and the firm name became Kerst & Strautman P.C. In 2014, Dan received Dalby Wendland & Company’s Spirit of Western Colorado Award, which recognizes individuals and businesses that contribute to their communities and create lasting legacies. Sadly, after a two-year battle with leukemia, Dan passed away on September 7, 2015. The link to Dan’s obituary in the Glenwood Springs Post Independent is here. Throughout his 40 years of law practice, Dan earned the love and respect of both clients and colleagues. Dan will be forever missed by all who knew him, and he will continue to live on in our hearts. We hope to carry on Dan’s commitment to excellence in the representation of our clients here at the firm.
